More than 800 library members sign up to extended access
Sunday opening hours have doubled at Portishead Library, following the success of its new self-service scheme.
More than 800 people have signed up to the library’s extended access swipe card system since it was introduced last year.
The scheme allows library members, who have signed up, to access the facility during unstaffed hours, either earlier in the mornings, in the evenings or for additional hours at the weekend.
In response to customer feedback, Portishead Library’s Sunday extended access opening hours are now 8am-8pm – an increase of six hours on the previous Sunday times.
For library members wishing to sign up to the scheme, a short induction session enables users to access their chosen library to borrow and return books and use the computers and photocopying facilities at a more suitable time.
West ward councillor Felicity Baker, who has responsibility for library services on the council’s executive, said: “We have had a lot of positive feedback about Extended Access.
“Convenience is so important to today’s users and increasing the hours on a Sunday will give them even greater flexibility in how and when they use the library.”
To book an induction go to www.eventbrite.co.uk and search ‘Portishead Library’ or visit the library and ask a member of staff.
